A Suffolk sex shop has applied to renew its establishment licence for another year.

The owner of Secrets on St Johns Street in Bury St Edmunds has applied to West Suffolk Council for a renewal of its sex establishment licence.

According to the plans, X-rated DVDs are sold at the venue, which has been running as a sex shop since 2005.

Venues for sexual entertainment, or venues selling sex toys, books, or DVDs, or showing explicit films need a sex establishment licence, and each licence is valid for 12 months.

The application must also be sent to local police.

There will be a 28-day consultation period before the decision to grant a licence, during which time comments from the public may be made.

Representations can be made to the council until Thursday (November 23).

According to its sex establishment licensing policy, West Suffolk Council will not normally grant a licence in the vicinity of a school, place of worship, family leisure venue, residential building, important historic buildings, youth facilities, or important public and cultural facilities.
