Plans have been approved to change an empty house into a children’s home near Bury St Edmunds.
An application was made to Suffolk County Council for a change of use from a residential home to a residential institution near The Greyhound pub in Hargreave Road in Chevington.
The building is to be used by East Anglia charity and care provider Break, to support one young person at a time to build relationships and their lives following traumatic experiences.
The bungalow, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, will become a children’s home for one child aged between 11 and 17.
According to application documents, the aim is to create a children’s home that replicates a loving family home, and so design and decorations would mimic a home environment, and there would be no signage marking the property as a children’s home.
The young person being cared for would have two or three staff members along with manager and deputy manager present, with support workers sleeping there too.
The application was approved on Tuesday.
