An empty property that failed to sell at auction is now being guarded by security guards following attempted break-ins.

The home, in Southgate Street in Bury St Edmunds, was listed for sale by Auction House East Anglia.

Since the auction, which took place on December 5, the agent said there have been two successful break-ins.

One of the break-ins involved a group of between 15 and 20 people.

A statement from the auctioneers said: "Subsequently the property is now being guarded by four security guards, CCTV and shuttering."
