Christmas spirit in many towns across Suffolk had to be put on hold last year with light switch on ceremonies cancelled or held virtually.

But this Yuletide the wheels are in motion to create festive fun throughout the county.

You will be able to visit stalls, stages, parades and even Santa himself in these seven Suffolk towns planning light switch ons this winter.

Felixstowe

Felixstowe's lights, as always, are brought to us by the Lions Club, supported by the town council. The event will have a wide range of stalls along Hamilton Road to the Triangle canopy, as well as Santa's Grotto for children to visit.

Carol singing and live entertainment will be taking place all afternoon, with a children's candlelight parade towards a special stage built for the event at the Triangle taking place at 4.30pm.

There, the lights are due to be turned on by the mayor of Felixstowe.

Sudbury

Everyone is welcome at the Sudbury Christmas lights, whether they're coming to see the perennial high street window display competition or joining the hunt for naughty elves across town.

Returning to the town centre following a year online, the ceremony last year was watched by more than 17,000 people from all around the world.

With a Christmas market, food and drink, live street performers, rides, grottos and games this event really does offer something for everyone.

Southwold

The picturesque coastal town of Southwold will also be celebrating its Christmas lights switch on this year, closing the high street and letting the shops spill out onto the road.

Bell ringers will be on Market Place, while the Wrentham Band's carols will be echoing through the air.

The lights themselves will be turned on by none other than Father Christmas, who will carry out the honour on the town hall's balcony for all to see.

Where: High Street, Southwold.

When: Saturday, November 27. A road closure will begin at 4pm and end at 7pm.

Stowmarket

The Stowmarket Christmas Fayre will be held in various locations with mayor Keith Scariff, opening the event by illuminating the town centre.

The Fayre will host festive market stalls with a broad mix of gifts, treats, food and drink produced by local and regional traders.

In addition to the market stalls, there will be an ice rink, merry-go-round, miniature model fairground and street entertainment, including stilt walkers, carol singers and brass band musicians.

Special guest, Father Christmas, will be here with his sleigh and reindeers to feed.

While at the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts there will be festive storytelling — The Regal Stowmarket will even be showing classic Christmas films.

If this isn't enough to get you out there will even be a Christmas tree festival, complete with more than 360 trees.

Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh Christmas lights will have an array of traditional activities on offer.

One can explore the Christmas market in the church hall. Children will get a free hat and stalls will offer products ranging from Santa sacks to ceramics and antiques to jewellery.

There will even be a raffle and tombola, and of course the standard lights-turning-on though the highlight is of course an appearance by Santa himself.

Beccles

After a allow year Beccles Christmas lights are going ahead, with organisers returning to basics with an event focused on local stall holders.

Four roads in town are being closed from 1pm to10pm to create space for the stalls, with shops and businesses in town staying open late to make use of them.

The event will have street entertainment, market stalls, craft stalls, fairground rides and a stage, with live entertainment. There will also be carol singers, food vendors and even a Christmas trail in the town.

Bury St Edmunds

At Bury St Edmunds Christmas lights switch on you will be able to enjoy a variety of gift stalls, charity stalls, hot food stalls, street entertainment and children's fairground rides.

Santa Claus will be making an appearance, along with his elves and sleigh. The town will even be graced by a stilt walking elf, a stilt walking fairy, a toy soldier, and a magician/balloon modeler.

The Salvation Army will be performing Christmas music, while the local community radio station RWSfm 103.3 will broadcast from the Cornhill.
