West Row residents have been left scratching their heads after they awoke to find their number plates had been prised off their cars.
At least two cars were found to have been targeted, in an incident which has left people confused and worried about the criminal's intentions.
One of the victims was Rachel Bannister, who has had to pay for a replacement plate out of her own pocket.
"I just wonder, why my car?" she said.
"It's unnerving as there's hardly any crime in sleepy West Row."
Mrs Bannister has paid £10 to replace the plate and a further £3.50 to buy sticky pads to affix it to her car.
Suffolk Constabulary confirmed that the incident, in which a vehicle had its rear number plate stolen by an unknown suspect, happened on Beeches Road in West Row.
