Fourteen urgent flood warnings and alerts remain in place for Suffolk this morning in the wake of Storm Babet which caused a major incident that affected roads, homes and businesses.

The second named storm of the season arrived in force on Friday (October 20), bringing torrential rains and gale-force winds that closed major highways, felled trees and flooded communities across the region. 

Five flood warnings are still active for Stoke Ferry and Hilgay, and the River Gipping from Needham Market to Ipswich.

It also extends to the River Lark from Clopton to Martlesham, the River Stour from Boxted to Dedham, and the River Waveney from Bungay to Ellingham, as well as from Diss to Bungay.

According to the Environment Agency, river levels in these areas are currently high but steady, with flooding expected.

Further rainfall is forecast today which will keep river levels high, with locals urged to be ready to take action to protect their property if flooding is expected.

As well as five warnings, another nine flood alerts remain active today, including at the River Granta, Rattlesden and Gipping, through and including Stowmarket and Needham Market. 

It also extends to the River Colne, the River Gipping, the Rivers Deben and Lark, the River Stour,  Waveney and the upper Stour and surrounding tributaries.

The major incident warning was stood down at the weekend, with people advised to "remain cautious" and stay safe around low-lying areas prone to flooding.
