Newmarket has been left in a state of shock as a murder probe was launched following the death of a woman in the west Suffolk town.
The incident unfolded after police were called to an address in Exning Road, north-west of the town centre, shortly before 10am on Tuesday.
Officers entered a property in the residential street to discover a body of a woman inside.
Two men, aged 38 and 47, were both arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning.
Detectives continue to question the suspects over the woman's death.
A large police presence was seen in Exning Road after the incident and police cordons were still in place on Wednesday morning.
One alleyway running alongside the terraced homes was also taped off, while a forensics tent was put up in the front garden of the house where the woman was found dead.
Rachel Hood, Suffolk county councillor for Exning and Newmarket, said the community had been left in a state of shock after learning a woman had died in the incident.
She said: "People are just beginning to find out but those who have are terribly shocked and upset and it’s terribly tragic.
"This news takes a while to get around and sink in but this is certainly very unusual and it’s just terribly, terribly sad."
Residents living in the area have also described the scene they witnessed as a huge emergency services presence swooped on their street.
A neighbour living in Exning Road, who did not want to be named, said: "I came home yesterday morning and the whole street was just covered in police and ambulances, but two days prior there has been police.
"I knew it was something really bad with the amount of police here and the way they were not telling anyone anything. Normally they say something but they were very hush-hush.
"Nothing this serious has happened around here but there’s always something going on. It’s a busy road. We had a drug raid going on a few weeks back and someone else was kicking off not too far away."
Another added: "It’s just awful, everyone is really shocked. I used to see some young boys kicking a ball about in their garden.
"Now and again something happens around here but not this bad. It’s quite scary."
