Criminals jailed for murder, drug dealing and sex offences are among those to be jailed in Suffolk in 2023.
Ipswich Crown Court has handed out hundreds of sentences in 2023, locking up criminals for various crimes.
Dale Day
Dale Day was sentenced to 12 years in prison in January for multiple child sex offences.
Day, 35, contacted a 12-year-old girl on Facebook pretending to be a 14 or 15-year-old girl.
Ipswich Crown Court heard he had asked the young girl to send intimate pictures and videos.
In addition to being jailed, Day was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the rest of his life and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
Freya Hoey
Freya Hoey was sentenced to 30 months behind bars in May after she threatened a man with a knife.
Nineteen-year-old Hoey climbed through the window of a premises in St Andrew's Place in Melton alongside her 17-year-old co-defendant, who had previously made threats to her former boyfriend who lived in the property
She was sentenced to 30 months in a young offender's institution after admitting to threatening with a knife in a public place.
Alexander Cornell
Alexander Cornell was jailed for 20 years in March after a stabbing in a Bury St Edmunds car park.
The 29-year-old, of Britannia Road in Ipswich, stabbed Blazej Piortowski three times in the Parkway multi-storey car park on July 4, 2022.
Cornell, a restaurant worker in Ipswich, was obsessed with his manager, who was in a relationship with his victim.
He was jailed for a total of 20 years with an extended licence period of five years.
Peter Nash
Peter Nash was jailed for life in May after murdering his wife and daughter.
Nash, 47 and of the Heath Estate, Great Waldingfield, had denied murdering his wife, Jillu, and daughter, Louise, but was convicted following a three-week trial.
Nash, who represented himself during the trial at Ipswich Crown Court, claimed he "lawfully" killed his wife on September 8, 2022, after he discovered Mrs Nash had been having an affair.
On the night of her death, he had confronted his wife about the pictures of a man he'd found in their car and in her purse.
Nash murdered his daughter because he was worried what would happen to her, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Alex Tye
Teenager Alex Tye was sentenced to life behind bars for attempted murder.
Tye, 17, of Low Road, Friston, lured a 16-year-old girl to an isolated area of a park in Benhall and stabbed her seven times in October 2022.
Ipswich Crown Court heard that Tye blamed his victim for the break up of his relationship with his girlfriend.
During the hearing, judge Mr Justice Baker said the teenager had taken the knife to the scene intending to kill his victim.
The teenage girl was left paralysed from the chest down as a result of her injuries.
Tye will have to serve a minimum of twelve-and-a-years behind bars before he can be considered for early release.
James Mackenzie
James Mackenzie was jailed for nine years in March for orally raping a woman and taking naked photos of her.
The 32-year-old, of Kelsale, had denied orally raping the woman, but was found guilty by jury at Ipswich Crown Court.
Following a night out in Ipswich, the woman got into bed wearing the jumpsuit she’d been out in and became aware of Mackenzie removing her clothing.
In addition to his sentence, he was also banned from contacting the victim indefinitely and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.
Claire Burgess
Thirty-seven-year-old Claire Burgess was jailed for seven years in September for leaving a man with life-threatening injuries following a stabbing.
Burgess, of London Road South in Lowestoft, was sentenced following the attack in December 2021.
Emergency services were called to Raglan Street in the seaside town on December 15 after reports that a man had been stabbed.
Detective Sergeant Kevyn Durrant said at the time of her jailing: “I am pleased to see Burgess has been given a long custodial sentence for this attack."
Chris Sudeen
Chris Sudeen was sentenced to 30 months behind bars for drug offences in Ipswich in June.
Sudeen, 63 and of Robeck Road in the town, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine and possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply.
Ipswich Crown Court was told Sudeen had accumulated a £259 drug habit following the death of his nephew, Tavis Spencer-Aitkens.
To support his habit, the 63-year-old had become involved in drug dealing.
