A woman has been taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital after a serious two-vehicle crash on the A14 in west Suffolk.

Emergency services were called to the crash in the eastbound carriageway near the Saxham business park at Risby, near Bury St Edmunds, just before 9pm on Sunday.

One person is believed to have suffered serious injuries and has been taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, the spokesman confirmed. 

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances, two hazardous area response team vehicles, a rapid response vehicle and East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to a road traffic collision on the A14 near Risby on Sunday evening.

"Three patients were assessed and one was discharged at the scene.

"One woman with serious injuries was transported by road ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital.

"A second woman was transported by road ambulance to West Suffolk Hospital for further assessment and care."

A road closure was put in place for a number of hours overnight on the eastbound carriageway while the vehicles were recovered. 

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash or who was driving in the area at the time.
