Two reports of people carrying a suspected firearm have been made in Bury St Edmunds.

Armed police were called to St Andrew's Street South in the town at about 7am on Friday morning, following reports that a person was seen carrying a gun.

Following enquiries, a second report was made to police at about 11.45am, stating that a man was carrying a white ball-bearing type gun in Oakes Road.

It is believed the imitation firearms are likely airsoft weapons, with airsoft events taking place locally over the bank holiday weekend.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "Those in possession of air-powered ball-bearing weapons are reminded these should not be carried in public as this can understandably lead to concern for members of the public and the person in possession could be breaking the law.

"There is not believed to be a wider threat to the public, however officers are carrying out additional reassurance patrols."

Anyone with any information in relation to the weapons sould contact police on 101.
