Controversial plans to built 61 new homes in a village have been met with more than 100 public objections.
If Persimmon Homes plans before Mid Suffolk District Council are given the green light, 61 new one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes will be built on the land west of Ixworth Road in Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds.
This is the second phase of the Persimmon Homes development - the first phase being known as College Park.
Since the plans were received on May 20, some 100 public objections have been lodged by disgruntled residents and neighbours on the Mid Suffolk District Council planning portal.
Concerns raised in the comments include obstruction of views, lack of infrastructure, highways safety, overdevelopment and wildlife.
One Thurston resident said: "No further development should take place in Thurston until issues with local infrastructure is sorted.
"The village needs a doctors surgery. The roads and junctions around the village are in adequate for the increase of traffic, particularly Fishwick Corner, Ixworth Road, Norton Road.
"The Carpark at the station/Co-op shops is now not large enough for the size of the village and often congested. Public transport in the village is also very poor with very few buses."
Thurston Parish Council has also objected to the plan, citing concerns over, amongst other things, the density of the build, lack of distinctive character, highways safety and infrastructure issues.
And David Bradbury, who represents the area on Mid Suffolk District Council, said: "The design of this development bears no resemblance to the Thurston local plan with straight rows of houses.
"The land was originally earmarked for education purposes within the village and many within the village, feel it should be used for the benefit of the village, not to boost the profits of a large building company."
In a statement before the council, Persimmon Homes said: "It is considered that the proposal constitutes a sustainable and well-designed development that accords with relevant National and Local policies.
"If approved, this will make a positive contribution to the growth of Thurston."
