These secret gardens in Suffolk are open to the public in July 2024 and there is something for everyone. 

The National Garden Scheme (NGS) gives visitors access to gardens across the UK and Channel Islands and raises money for health and nursing charities through admissions and the sale of refreshments. 

Here are some of the July highlights in Suffolk. 

1. Brampton Manor Care Home

Where: Fordham Road, Newmarket CB8 7AQ

When: Thursday, July 4 from 1.30pm until 4pm

Cost: £4 for adults, children go free

With a variety of horticultural features maintained by the residents and team, the gardens at the care home are focused on the health and wellbeing of residents living with dementia and their care needs.

2. Foxgrove & Maynell House

Where: High Road East, Felixstowe IP11 9PU

When: Saturday, July 6 from 2pm until 5pm

Cost: £4 for adults, children go free

Over two acres of landscaped gardens surround the old Victorian buildings and contain mature trees, shrubs and roses with a veranda and large terrace in Maynell House. 

3. Otley Hall

Where: Hall Lane, Otley IP6 9PA

When: Sunday, July 7 from 10am until 4pm

Cost: £5.50 for adults, children go free

The 10 acres of formal and informal gardens are managed with an eye for nature and feature three Elizabethan Garden recreations.

4. Wolfe Hall

Where: Barrow, Bury St Edmunds IP29 5EZ

When: Sunday, July 14 from 10am until 4pm

Cost: £6 per adult, children go free

The gardens of the 16th century house include an established orchard, a vegetable plot and a new orchard of heritage apples. 

5. Heron House

Where: Priors Hill Road, Aldeburgh IP15 5EP

When: Sunday, July 21 from 2pm until 5pm

Cost: £5 for adults, children go free

Two acres of garden with unusual trees and a waterfall overlook the North Sea, River Alde and the surrounding marshes.
