The owner of a beauty and hair salon in a Suffolk village has described their heartbreak after a fire destroyed part of the business's roof.

Emergency services were called to Beeches Road, in West Row, near Mildenhall at about 3.25pm to reports of a fire coming from Opulent Hair and Beauty salon.

On arrival, crews found that the fire was coming from the roof and the first floor of the building.

The owner of the salon released a statement on social media.

They said: "As some of you may be aware, the salon caught on fire yesterday afternoon.

"Everyone is safe and that is what is important. We ask all clients who have appointments coming up to please bare with us whilst we make arrangements and deal with this heartbreaking event. We hope to update you all later today.

"Thank you to everyone that was there to help, the firemen for their quick response, the kind messages of support and for understanding."

On Tuesday a spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said a fire prevention officer was due to visit the premises to liaise with the owners.
