Floral enthusiasts in a west Suffolk town say it is "exciting and daunting" to have been put forward once again for a national competition.

Bury St Edmunds was put forward by Anglia in Bloom as an entrant for next year's Britain in Bloom awards.

Bury in Bloom, founded by the Bury Society CIO in 1986, is the charity that is responsible for enhancing the floral arrangements in Bury St Edmunds and enters into Anglia in Bloom every year.

Regional judges then make suggestions on how to enhance areas to prepare them for the national competition.

This year Bury St Edmunds bagged gold in the Large Town category of the Anglia in Bloom awards.

Bury St Edmunds was last entered into Britain in Bloom in 2022 as a BID Town and won a Gold award.

The last time Bury St Edmunds reached the finals of Britain in Bloom in the Large Town category was in 2018.

Chris Wiley, Bury in Bloom coordinator, said: "Achieving a nomination for Britain in Bloom is not easy as we have to be seen to be at the top of our game, but hearing the news that our time is in 2025 was both exciting and daunting all at once.

"There is no doubt that we are going to need a lot of community participation and support, both financially and voluntary, to ensure we produce displays that impress the judges in summer.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of our current volunteers, sponsors and supporters. Without them, the town’s floral displays and work within schools and care homes would simply cease to exist."
