Drivers have been warned to follow an official diversion route as bridge replacement work continues.

The A1088 at Bridge Farm in Stowlangtoft has been closed between the junction with The Street in the village and Sandy Lane in Grimstone End since July.

Work was originally scheduled to finish by December 20 but it was pushed back following delays caused by an issue with the concrete.

While the closure is in place an official diversion route was put in place with traffic diverted along the A1088, A143, A134, A14, A1088 and vice versa.

However, Suffolk Highways is warning drivers as nearby roads experience an increase in traffic trying to bypass the closure by using unofficial and 'unsuitable' diversion routes.

A spokesman for the authority said: "This has been especially prevalent on Kiln Lane which runs parallel to the section of the A1088 which is currently closed.

"Please respect residents by adhering to the official diversion in order to reduce the volume of traffic travelling along local roads, many of which are unsuitable for larger volumes of traffic."

No entry signs will be installed at the northern entrance to Kiln Lane on Monday, November 4 and will remain in place until the closure on the A1088 has been lifted.
