A man from Bury St Edmunds pleaded guilty to handling a £6,000 stolen accordion.

On September 7, Gavin McConkey appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich.

McConkey, who is of no fixed abode but from the Bury St Edmunds area, was facing a charge of handling stolen goods and fraud by false representation.

The charge of fraud relates to an incident March 9 earlier this year, when McConkey was found selling a stolen item, although court documents did not specify what the item was.

McConkey indicated a guilty plea to this offence, and was fined £200. He was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation, bringing the total he will have to pay to £500.

The charge of handling stolen goods also related to March 9. The 54-year-old “dishonestly undertook or assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of stolen goods”, namely an accordion.

According to court documents, the accordion was valued at £6,000.

McConkey also indicated a guilty plea to this offence. However, no compensation was ordered as the accordion was recovered and had not been damaged.
